Last year we celebrated the arrival of Spring with nature group at the Cotter, so I thought it would be nice to continue the tradition! I’m also hoping it’ll be warm enough that if some kiddos do end up in the river, it wont be quite as cold!
We can meet just near the playground, under the shady trees.
You might want to bring spare clothes and shoes just in case your child gets wet.

RSVP and payment are necessary by August 2 contact Adele (adele.gregory@gmail.com) for details.
The Peasant Prince tells the remarkable true story of a 10-year-old peasant boy’s journey from impoverished rural China to the international dance scene. This is a story of courage, resilience and unwavering hope.
Li, a 10-year old peasant boy is plucked from his village in rural China and sent to a ballet academy in the big city. He leaves everything and everyone he loves, including his family. Over years of gruelling training, this boy transforms from an impoverished peasant to a giant of the international dance scene. Li’s courage, resilience and unwavering hope for a better life for himself and his family makes The Peasant Prince a story to ignite our own aspirations to be the best person we can be. Audiences will be captivated by this very personal story, truly a 20th century fairy tale.
Bring morning tea, lunch, water bottles and weather appropriate clothing/gear for a morning of historical fun going back in time to see what school was like in Australia from 1911 to contemporary times.
The theme of book week this year is “Reading is Magic”. Come along and be involved. This activity is suitable for all ages from the youngest to the oldest of our homeschoolers. Below is a list of some of the activities to help get you excited. Prizes will be awarded for some of these activities; these will be by age group and include a teenager’s and parent’s category.
- Dress Up – have a think about what character from a book you will dress up as and get creative! Don’t forget to bring the book with you!
- Write or draw (as age appropriate) about your favourite character from a book (templates provided here https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0b9Y6XtoAjdmEuOELn4LU7fCg#Bookweek).
- For those who are fantastical illustrators, draw a map based on the theme “Reading is Magic”.
- Food is a magical part of many books. Bring a plate to share of a magical food, this may be something from the shops like Turkish delight (Narnia) or if you are a whiz in the kitchen and want to win a prize create something to bring on the day.
On the day we’ll be talking about books, reading some of the shortlisted picture books and eating some food together (and drinking nice coffee for the adults). We’ll have some craft activities for those who want to participate and free play as well. A selection of fantastical board games will also be available to play.
Book week will be held at Good Shepherd Anglican Church Curtin from 10.30 to 1pm with prize presentation at 11.30. The car park is accessed from Gillies Street.

Weston Park is a fun location with a decent sized playground with big sandpits (ill bring some sand toys and diggers), climbing frames, swings, good toilets and lots of green space for free play. If the train is up and running we could even visit the farm across the road!
Best parking is at yarralumla play station, prescott st.
